River Bottoms
ElevateUT (website) designed and built River Bottoms in the Jordan River corridor of Draper in late 2022. What began as a planned 9-hole beginner course quickly expanded into a full 18-hole layout after the design team discovered additional usable land hidden within the heavy overgrowth. River Bottoms became the first disc golf course in Utah to secure major UORG funding for professional installation. Draper City contributed additional funding for infrastructure, including large concrete tee pads and professional signage, while later grants supported irrigation and the planting of shade trees.
Scott Belchak, the primary designer, reached out to partner with me in consulting on where to plant trees in the fairways. With wide open land, there is not much to deter the players from throwing hyzers over and over. The placement of these trees will eventually create shot shape variety on an otherwise wide open property.
